Interfaith Association

“As a member of an Interreligious Forum of Greater Harrisburg, I, along with other members of the community, contribute to building bridges of understanding, respect, and cooperation among diverse faith communities. Representing the Sikh tradition, I participate in dialogue, collaborative initiatives, and community-building efforts that promote shared values such as compassion, justice, service, and peace. My role involves active engagement in discussions on social issues, ethical challenges, and cultural exchange, while highlighting Sikh perspectives rooted in equality, universal brotherhood, and service to humanity (Sarbat da Bhala). I work alongside leaders from various religious backgrounds to foster mutual respect, dispel misconceptions, and create inclusive spaces for education and healing. Tis is all done by taking part in World Religion Day, Race Unity Day, Harmony Walk in Harrisburg each year. Provide funding for giving scholarships for students in need of their education in local college. This work is both spiritual and civic—it reflects Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s vision of unity in diversity and the ongoing Sikh commitment to contribute meaningfully to the global community. This has given me the opportunity to meet Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro at a luncheon where he heard about our religious beliefs.” -Manbir Bawa
